Case Study : TLX GOLD - Making the grade for historic restoration
Sympathetic to its installation
Combined breathable multi-foil insulation and breather underlay
Removes condensation risk*
Provides an immediate water tight roofing solution
Hoarwithy church is an Italianate church dedicated to St. Catherine and is unlike any other in Herefordshire, having been built with a southern Italian Romanesque and Byzantine style of architecture.
The Grade II listed vicarage, which sits beside the church, needed to be re-roofed as part of its restoration. Rigid board was ruled out as it would raise the property’s roofline.
It was also necessary to meet Building Regulations' rule that where 25 percent or more of a roof is being renovated, the thermal performance must be upgraded
What was specified:
More than 300 sqm of TLX Gold, a combined multi-foil insulation and breather membrane was installed. As a Grade II listed building it needed to meet stringent requirements of English Heritage as well as Building Control.
TLX Gold overcame the technical and structural problems of raising the roofline - enabling the roofing line and building appearance to be maintained
- Re-roofing took place in stages – allowing for sectional replacement ensuring the building wasn’t exposed to the elements
- Thermal performance of property was improved and the 15 year payback rule met.
David Rowlands, Managing Director of Heritage Roofing said: “We found TLX Gold to be a very easy product to work with and we were able to cut the installation time and subsequent labour costs. It was great for this particular project as we needed to get the slates off and the new roofing system fitted quickly to avoid any water ingress whilst the roof was open.”
