Case Study : TLX GOLD - Gold lends library a text-book solution
Combined breathable multi-foil insulation and breather underlay
Removes condensation risk*
Externally fitted with minimum internal disturbance
Sympathetic to its installation
An unobtrusive roofing solution was required to replace an existing lath and plaster roof at Golcar library in Yorkshire. Velux windows and existing irregular widths slates - where the lower courses were taller than the upper – were also a consideration. A similar project had required slates to be stripped, and stacked on the ground in rows corresponding to their position on the roof. Installers were keen to avoid a repeat of this process.
What was specified?
TLX Gold, installed in the same way as a standard roofing tile underlay, was specified. It can be used when upgrading or renovating a roof, presents no condensation risk and doesn’t raise the roofline.
By using TLX Gold here it was possible to carry out a staged installation:
· ridge and top three courses removed, old battens and felt taken off and first layer of TLX Gold fitted
· next three courses removed and stacked on top of TLX Gold
· TLX Gold didn’t need counter battening so roof wasn’t completely stripped at anytime and was reroofed a few courses at a time.
· second layer of TLX Gold fitted between Velux windows. Tile battens squashed two layers together to provide a good seal.
Mark Atha, managing director of Watershead Roofing said:” TLX Gold took half the time of other multi-foil products or PIR to install and as we didn’t have to counter batten or strip the whole roof it was a speedy installation.”
